Periorbital Skin Rejuvenation Using Microneedling Radiofrequency (MNRF)

Often, our first signs of aging appear in the delicate periorbirtal area.

One innovative approach that has garnered attention is the use of microneedle radiofrequency (MNRF) technology. This method stands out for its ability to treat periorbital wrinkles, which often result from long-term use of facial muscles and UV-induced damage to the skin’s collagen. The MNRF system can penetrate the skin with microneedles and deliver thermal energy into the dermis. This physical stimulation induces wound healing of the dermal collagen contributing to its regeneration and remodeling, resulting in skin tightening and improved skin laxity, and fewer wrinkles

A recent study published in “Annals of Dermatology” in October 2023, spearheaded by a team of researchers including Ko Eun Kim, Jong Heon Park, Tae Woong Seul, Il-Hwan Kim, and Hwa Jung Ryu, sheds light on the efficacy and safety of a novel fractional microneedle RF device for rejuvenating the periorbital skin of Asian individuals.

The study evaluated the outcomes of eleven Korean participants aged between 30 and 75 years, who underwent treatment for periorbital wrinkles. Using objective measures such as the Fitzpatrick wrinkle assessment scale, melanin and erythema indexes, transepidermal water loss, and skin elasticity parameters, the researchers aimed to provide a comprehensive analysis of the treatment’s effectiveness.

The results were promising. All participants noted improvements in the appearance of wrinkles around their eyes, with significant enhancements in skin pigmentation and hydration observed as well. This suggests not only a cosmetic improvement but also a healthier skin barrier function. Additionally, the treatment was found to be safe, with minimal discomfort reported by the participants, further solidifying the potential of fractional microneedle RF as a viable option for those seeking periorbital rejuvenation.

The findings indicate that MNRF can offer a significant, long-term improvement in the periorbital region’s appearance, enhancing both the skin’s texture and its overall youthfulness.

In combination with evidence based skin care, neuromodulators, biostimulators and soft tissue fillers we are able to provide integrated solutions to meet our patient’s objectives.
